2009 Picnic

The turnout for the picnic was great. The weather was perfect, cool, but not rainy; food was good; and a lot was accomplished at the board meeting.

The board discussed repairs needed at Old Cane Springs. Some things are being done now, but they repairs may be very extensive and costly as they involve the brickwork on the back corner of the building.

They also discussed the furniture that is on loan to the City of Richmond at Irvinton. The city wants an appraisal for insurance purposes. The board felt that it was the responsibility of the city to hire an appraiser and the MCHS will not cover that expense.

A committee of Charles Hay (chair), Bill Adams and Dean Whitaker was appointed to oversee property owned by the historical society.

Another committee was appointed to research the possibility of reprinting When the Ripe Pears Fell. The Battle of Richmond museum has many requests for this title. Ed Ford (chair), Paul Seyfrit and Paul Rominger were appointed to study the possibilities.

Walk of Fame plaques are being installed this week and the dedication date is August 22, 2009 at 9:00 am.
